McCullough back in his hometown

Deland McCullough graduated from Campbell Memorial, and he’s back home to present the first-ever scholarship in his name.

McCullough was a running backs coach with the Kansas City Chiefs when they won the Super Bowl in 2020.

On Monday, he returned to his high school to give senior James Shaffer the $5,000 award. Shaffer will now be attending Grove City in the fall.

Jay Hig spoke to Shaffer about the award. Here's what he had to say. “ I am very thankful being the first person to ever receive this award. It truly means a lot coming from Deland and it shows how much he cares about his community and giving back to others. Truly shows the meaning in once a red devil always a red devil.

To the other kids, all I have to say is your hard work will pay off. Keep grinding and working as hard as you can and you will benefit from the results in the end”.

McCullough is now the Associate Head Coach for Indiana University.
