Former Heartland standout transferring schools.

On Monday morning, Joey Donofrio announced to our Austin Malutic that he’s transferring from Youngstown State to Westminster to continue his basketball career.

Joey will become a sophomore this upcoming season, He did not currently play basketball at YSU.

Austin spoke to Joey’s former high school coach, Josh Scott from Heartland Christian. This is what he added about Joey's big announcement today. “ I’m both proud and excited for Joey’s decision to come back to the game of basketball. Sometimes in life you don’t realize what you have until it’s gone and I think that’s what I’ve seen with Joey while discussing his return. His passion for the game and charisma will make him an instant hit in that Westminster locker room.  I truly can’t wait to see what all he can accomplish at the next level”.

At his time at Heartland, Joey was all-county first team his senior year, and a 1,000 point scorer.

When Joey gets to Westminster he’ll be joining a lot of local standouts who will become freshmen. Those are Springfield - Alex Rothwell, Boardman - Trey Dipetro, Jefferson - Bobby Ray, West Branch - Jaxon Hendershott and Salem - Drew Weir.

Local players who are already at Westminster include the following;

 Tyler James - Warren JFK, Drew Clark - Springfield, Reese Leone - West Branch, Austin O’Hara - Girard, Jordan Zupko - Mineral Ridge.

So next season, Westminster will likely have 11 local players in the Malutic Live coverage area.
