Howland’s Pompelia makes it a night to remember at the office
A night Howland senior Alyssa Pomeplia will never forget, Alyssa and the Tigers went to Canfield and defeated the Cardinals 40-38. Coming into the game Pompelia was 5 points shy of the milestone and she hit it with a 3 ball in the 2nd quarter finishing with 12 points.
Howland led 21-15 at half with a big first half from Taylor Lawrence as she had 7 points, Canfield tho made adjustments in the third quarter and took the lead into the final frame 27-25. However, a few heads up plays by sophomore Alyssa Massuci got the Tigers back into the game and milestone lady Alyssa Pompelia sealed the deal with 2 clutch free throws down the stretch to give Howland the win to improve to 9-5 on the season and win number 3 in a row.
Coach Pounds told our Austin Malutic following the win “ It felt good especially for our seniors who haven’t beat Canfield since their freshman year, This is by far the biggest win of my coaching career Austin, huge win for the team and the program tonight”
Austin spoke to Alyssa Pomeplia and Aaron Pounds following the game and their interviews are posted below. One key thing that Alyssa mentioned was that she follows in her fathers footsteps and she looks up to him and that’s her biggest supporter and motivater.
Austin was reminded tonight that Howland only played 14 games last year due to Covid shutting down in Trumbull County. That means something for Alyssa with that accomplishment tonight.
For those wondering, this rematch is scheduled for Saturday Feb 5th @ Howland.
