Long time assistant football coach & Columbiana Assistant Athletic Director Larry Baughman has recently passed away.

Baughman began his association with Columbiana Athletic in 1968 when he became the head coach of the Little Clippers after responding to an ad in the local newspaper. Baughman served as head coach for the Little Clippers for 12 years & later became the league commissioner. In 1986 he became the Freshman Football Coach. Three years later Baughman became the defensive coordinator when Lowell Bacon took over the program. In 2002 Baughman won the AFLAC assistant coach of the year. In 2005 Baughman was inducted into the Columbiana Athletic Hall of Fame.

Baughman also coached baseball & softball for the Clippers. He also served as president of the Columbiana Boosters Association & helped organize funding to help the athletic programs obtain equipment they needed as well as having proper facilities for the athletes to practice & train.

Baughman also was a basketball official for 33 years In addition, he served as the coordinator for the Penn-Ohio Stateline football classic for nearly 20 years & most recently served as the Assistant Athletic Director under current Columbiana AD Erin Heasley.

If you were at our Basketball all star game last March, you might remember Larry as he was in a wheelchair supporting over 200 student athletes participating in the game.

Forner Columbiana Superintendent Dr. Joe Rottenborn once said that Baughman "epitomizes the Columbiana Clipper spirit & bleeds red & white."

RIP Larry Baughman. Your service to Columbiana Athletics will never be forgotten.
